Cecchetti Society Trust News

Welcome to The Cecchetti Society Trust Newsletter.

In this Newsletter the Trust is pleased to be able to report on the very welcome return of the Vocational Classical Ballet Awards hosted this year by the Cecchetti Society Trust. Incorporating the Fewster Cecchetti Scholarship and the Barbara Geoghegan Award, the Awards have not been held since 2019 due to Covid. So it was a great pleasure to see so many talented young dancers gathered in a theatre to dance for a live audience again.

As the end of the month fast approaches, so does the deadline for applications for Teacher Study Bursaries. Please don’t miss the opportunity to apply and/or to encourage others who may be able to benefit from a bursary to do so.

Cecchetti Society Trust
Vocational Classical Ballet Awards

The Cecchetti Society Trust welcomed 60 talented young dancers from UK vocational training schools to the Vocational Classical Ballet Awards on Sunday 5th February 2023 at Elmhurst Ballet School, Birmingham.

The Trust was extremely grateful to the volunteer team of Cecchetti Society Classical Ballet Faculty Committee members and Chaperones who gave their time to help staff and run the Awards, creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for participants.

The Awards incorporate the Fewster Cecchetti Scholarship and the Barbara Geoghegan Award and the Trust provides the generous training prizes. All the competitors participated in an adjudicated ballet class onstage set at Advanced 1 Level containing unset work and specified traditional Cecchetti exercises. Geoghegan Award competitors also performed an adjudicated classical solo.

The onstage classes were taught by Peter Parker, former Principal with Northern Ballet and Ballet Du Rhin, and were accompanied by Jonnie Gait. The Adjudicators were Susan Lucas FISTD, former Soloist - Birmingham Royal Ballet and Jonathan Payn FISTD, Principal Character Artist & Assistant Répétiteur, Birmingham Royal Ballet. The excellent standard of dance throughout the day drew a very warm response from the audience and gave the Adjudicators a difficult task. The deserving winners are below.
